Lockdown Ladybird Live – Week two – Take over

Being in the creative world we meet and make so many beautiful friends. Suzie saw my Facebook post about needing to take a little time out and was straight on the phone to offer help and has kindly agreed to ‘take over’ our ‘Sew Along Sunday’ on 22^nd November. Suzie is a fellow sewist who also designs and demonstrates beautiful sewing projects. As we have just started our ‘Lockdown Ladybird Lives’ I didn’t want to cancel, move or postpone so I have changed our ‘Sew Along’ schedule for a few weeks – I will keep you updated! Here’s a little more about our lovely Suzie. 

 

Suzie Duncan

Craft has always featured somewhere throughout my life, initially as a hobby and during the last seventeen years as my job as well; designing and demonstrating throughout the UK and Europe. I regularly demonstrate and create projects in quilting, sewing, card making, scrap-booking, wall art, cross stitch, altered art and jewellery. My passion is designing something unique and original to give to someone that hopefully they love to receive and I enjoy creating. Most of my projects involve recycled elements: no button, key or ribbon is safe. I love the challenge and ability to create a piece combining a variety of techniques and resources bespoke to the recipient.

Designing and creating something gives an amazing combination of pride, excitement and relaxation. It stimulates the creative side in everyone, however well hidden. Sharing creations, techniques and ideas is also important to me. Everyone views things differently and learning is never-ending. It’s a fantastic way to meet and socialise, spanning all ages and genders.

I was European Creative Designer for Cricut, launching their digital cutting machines across Europe and training retailers and consumers. I was Product Development Manager at Creative Expressions and more recently, Project Design Manager at Riley Blake Designs.

The make

For the book cushion  you will need:

• Pillow Front (piece A) – 16.5” x 16.5” 

• Pillow Front Backing (piece B) – 16.5” x 16.5”

• Pillow Back (pieces C & D) – TWO pieces 16.5” x 12”   (NOTE: the 12” sides will be top and bottom)

• Pocket Outer (piece E) – 16.5” x 9.5”  (NOTE: the 9.5” sides will be top and bottom)

• Pocket Lining (piece F) – 16.5” x 11”  (NOTE: the 10” sides will be top and bottom)

• Wadding / Fusible Fleece 16.5” x 16.5”

• Basting Spray (if using wadding)

• Coordinating thread

• Sewing Machine

• Scissors

• Pins or clips

• 18” Pillow Filler
